CIRCUS AERIALS | SPINNING LYRA ARTIST
I am an aerialist specializing in spinning lyra. I came to circus arts in 2012, with no dance or gymnastics background, but a real penchant for being upside down and the required stubbornness for working through the gnarliest trick.
Since then, I’ve trained and performed across four continents – including as a visiting aerial performer with Moya / Zip Zap Circus (South Africa), a teacher and performer at Helios School of Circus Arts (Mexico), a performer with Afreaka Aerials (UK), the cofounder of Aerial Hoop Retreat, and an ever-eager student under a patchwork of coaches and studios. I have also performed at various festivals and cabarets, in solo, duo, and trio acts.
While aerial hoop remains my unabashed favorite, you can also happily find me on a spiral, dance/static trapeze, hammock, pole, or bungee/harness. As a tiny human, I am sometimes asked to be thrown, and more often than not, I will say yes. As such, I have experience in partner/group acrobatics, acroyoga, triple trapeze, and quebradita (a very fast Latin acrobatic dance).
As a performer, my choreography emphasizes flow, musicality, and unusual transitions – drawing on the extensive, eclectic vocabulary originally acquired through my global training, and topped up through an unhealthy addiction to circus Instagram. As a coach and instructor, I love getting analytical and technical, teasing out the underlying physical mechanics of a trick or the waypoints of a choreographed act.
